African women’s organizations have an opportunity, as part of commemorating 15 years since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA) of 1995, to mobilize at the national, sub regional, and regional levels in order to hold their governments accountable for commitments made to women’s rights including those in the BPfA, the African Union Protocol on the Rights of Women in Africa, CEDAW (which was adopted 30 years ago in 1979)) and the Millennium Declaration and Goals.
