Give more people access to technology and training, and the world wins more chances to gain by
their contributions. - Microsoft Corporation (2007)
Bridging the Digital Divide
Information and computer technologies are fast becoming crosscutting tools to especially empower
women and girls in the information age. Isis-WICCE understands the power communication channels
have to educate women and girls from all backgrounds, who due to their circumstances may not have
access to information and computer technologies.
In response to this emerging trend, Isis-WICCE opened the first Internet Café and Resource Centre in
2000 for women, girls and disadvantaged boys in Kampala to promote equal access to communication
channels. On average over 150 visitors a month access the Internet Café and Resource Centre to further
sharpen their computer skills, conduct research, and seek online opportunities including grants and
scholarships, education programmes and employment vacancies.
Unlimited daily use of the Internet Café is 1,500 shillings or 20,000 shillings for a monthly
membership of unlimited use.
ICT Training
Isis-WICCE staff provides onsite computer and software training equipping users with knowledge and
skills to keep pace with the changing technologies. Whether a user has never turned on a computer
or simply understands the basics, Isis-WICCE customizes its training programme to suit the individual
needs. Training fees vary depending on the length and scope of program. Contact Isis-WICCE to book a
session.
