Amanitare
The African Partnership for Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights of Women and Girls (AMANITARE) is a ten year initiative (1999-2009) with a mandate derived from the outcomes of three world conferences: The World Conference on Human Rights (Vienna, 1993), the International Conference on Population and Development (Cairo, 1994), and the Fifth World Conference on Women (Beijing, 1995) from which declarations were drawn emphasising the importance of women's sexual and reproductive health and rights. The Amanitare initiative is an effort to facilitate the translation of the principles embodied in these agreements into the daily realities of African women and girls.
It aims to create a better political, economic and social environment which enables them to enjoy their lives without the fear of control or coercion because of their sexuality or reproductive potential.

GAIN
Gender in Africa Information Network (GAIN) is a network that was formed in 1997 after a workshop for information experts working with gender information centres in the region. The objective was to discuss appropriate communicative mechanisms to address issues around the sharing of information on gender equity and social justice in Africa. This electronic network has since been active and it links information centres and individuals across Africa, providing a space for sharing news, requesting information, disseminating articles and providing a forum for dialogue around challenges such as violence against women and understanding national differences.
