Monrovia, 15th July 2009 Senators from Maryland and Grand Kru counties in Liberia have committed themselves to intensify policy efforts that are necessary to address health related issues that were raised during the short term medical intervention that was been carried out in the two counties by Isis-WICCE in collaboration with WIPNET, Ministry of Gender and Development and Ministry of Health and Social welfare. The commitment was made during the meeting Isis-WICCE and partners held with the President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate Hon Cletus .S. Wotorson who is also the Senior Senator representing Grand Kru County. [+]

Since 2008, Isis-WICCE, with the mandate from the Uganda Women’s Coalition for Peace, decided to contribute to the engendering of the PRDP process by spearheading a women’s collective action to ensure the implementation has a positive impact on women’s empowerment and gender equality in the region. Isis-Women International Cross Cultural Exchange (Isis-WICCE) will hold an Institute in Southern Sudan spurning the period 2009-2010 with the objective of providing opportunities for women leaders in southern Sudan to have enhanced capacities and competence to engage and take lead in conflict transformation and peace building. Grand Cess Town, Grand Kru County, Liberia 10th July 2009. Over 200 surgical operations on different reproductive and physical health complications have been carried out on both women and men at J J Dossen and Rally Time Hospitals in Maryland and Grand Kru Counties by a team of Ugandan and Liberian doctors during a two weeks surgical camp, part of the short term medical intervention that Isis-WICCE and her partners undertook in Maryland and Grand Kru Counties in Liberia. The short term medical intervention which was funded under the Millennium Development Goal 3 (MDG3) Investing in Equality funding was carried out in collaboration with Women in Peace Building Network (WIPNET), the Liberian Ministry of Gender and Development and Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. The patients from Maryland County and Grand Kru in Liberia who have received treatment and surgical attention in the ongoing medical intervention have commended Isis-Women International Cross Cultural Exchange (Isis-WICCE), an international non governmental organisation based in Uganda for providing free treatment and surgeries to the war affected population in the two counties.
