Women participants travelling to the training on peace and leadership taking place in Juba narrowly survived death when their minibus almost fell into an ambush staged by suspected Kony rebels.
According to the women, the accident happened at Lodureng corner Kudu Payam at midday on the 15th August, 2009. The women include Lucy Ilina Quito, Margaret Kasara Kiwa, Edrige Grato Lahtoum and Angela A. Apio and were travelling from Torit Eastern Equatoria State. [+]

Isis-WICCE has just completed a short term medical intervention in the two counties of Maryland and Grand Kru in Liberia. Like in any post war situation, Liberia still has immense health problems that need holistic management to ensure impact on the health of the population, particularly that of women war survivors.

Zoe Latumboof the Karenni National Women’s Organisation (KNWO) in the Kingdom of Thailand was one of the participants of the 2007/2008 institute that was held in Liberia. She undertook to carry out a project of bringing out the voices of Karenni refugee women with the seed grant she received from Isis-WICCE, so that responsive interventions could be initiated in due course to address their plight especially in improving their living standards given the complex situation of their refugee status in the host country. Senators from Maryland and Grand Kru counties in Liberia have committed themselves to intensify policy efforts that are necessary to address health related issues that were raised during the short term medical intervention that was been carried out in the two counties by Isis-WICCE in collaboration with WIPNET, Ministry of Gender and Development and Ministry of Health and Social welfare. The commitment was made during the meeting Isis-WICCE and partners held with the President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate Hon Cletus .S. Wotorson who is also the Senior Senator representing Grand Kru County. [+]
